The conjugation of weak verbs with short-vowel stems ending in nasals and laterals in Norwegian (Bokmål) and Danish

The present article compares the conjungation patterns of weak verbs ending in stem-final geminate sonorant (nasal and lateral) consonants -/m(ː)/-, -/n(ː)/-, /ŋ(ː)/-, -/l(ː)/- in Norwegian (Bokmål) and Danish. A corpus study is conducted whose results show that the phonologically conditioned generalization of the 1st conjugation pattern in verb stems containing a short vowel is prevalent in both languages also when the stem-final consonant is a nasal or lateral. Danish, however, demonstrates a stronger prevalence of this generalization than Norwegian, which leads to some cases of differing conjungation of cognate weak verbs in these two languages.

De demonstrativa pronomina denna och den här och deras regionala varianter: en något kortare fallstudie

The article examines the demonstrative pronouns denna and den här; their description in Swedish grammars is compared with their use in newspapers and the speech of both younger and older native speakers of the language. The norm and deviations from it are discussed, as is the influence that the norm can have on the regional variants of the standard language.

Some observations on the description of the strong verb conjugation in educational materials for the three continental Scandinavian languages. Part I – Swedish

This is the first part of a two-part article which discusses and contrasts the ways in which strong verbs are usually described in educational materials for the three Mainland Scandinavian languages as L2. The first part examines materials for Swedish. It demonstrates that in spite of a certain variation, Swedish strong verbs are generally distinguished more or less systematically from irregular ones and the regular patterns found in their conjugation are emphasised.

The crisis of community

The concept of community is considered in a sociological, philosophical and cultural context, tracing the transformation that the idea of community undergoes in the development from traditional to post-traditional society. On this theoretical foundation is based the analysis of seven works from the latest German-language fiction, which examines the literature representation of the community. Its conclusions are again correlated to the theory in order to contribute to the knowledge of the community.

The motif of Ulysses and its transformations: myth and narrative in German literature after the Second World War

The article on „The Motif of Ulysses and its Transformations: Myth and Narrative in German Postwar Literature“ by Eva Patsovska-Ivanova focuses on the reception of the mythologicalmotif of Ulysses in German postwar prose and more specifically on its quality to influence the narratological approach of the authors. With its associative power and flexibility the myth enables them to meet the challenges of their complicated historical situation by adapting the basic mythological story to their own aesthetic purposes. The article studies the mechanisms for adapting the myth and their functions.

The construction of the Foreign and the Other in Felix Kanitz’ travel notes on Bulgaria

The paper examines the functions of representations of foreignness in Felix Kanitz’s travelogues about Bulgaria. It presents the theoretical split in the postcolonial discourse of the traditional opposition of the Own and the Foreign in two new oppositions: the Own – the Other and the Familiar – the Foreign, which have different functions. The first opposition is important for building one’s identity by distinguishing yourself from the other culture, the second is important for understanding the foreign culture and for shortening the distance with it. The examples given concern the subject of materialism of the Bulgarians, who are described as a sympathetic primitive culture.

Bernhard und Handke. Insights into their reception in Bulgaria

Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht die unterschiedlichen Formen der Rezeption von zwei maßgebenden österreichischen Autoren der 2. Hälfte des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts in Bulgarien. Ausgangspunkt bildet die Rekonstruktion der übersetzerischen Tätigkeit, es werden die wichtigsten Teilnehmer*innen an diesem Prozess zusammengetragen. Des Weiteren wird der Versuch unternommen auch andere Rezeptionsformen zu recherchieren und die Faktoren zusammenzufassen, die den literarischen Transfer zwischen Sprachen und von einer Nationalliteratur in eine andere begünstigen und fremdsprachige Autor*innen in Protagonist*innen des einheimischen, in diesem Falle des bulgarischen, Kulturkontextes verwandeln.

Norwegian literature in Bulgaria in the last two years (2020/2021). Topics, motifs, specific features of the translations

The publication provides a brief overview of the overall reception of Norwegian literature in Bulgaria from the Liberation to the present day. It focuses mainly on three books translated from Norwegian in the last two years (2020/2021) – Against nature by Thomas Espedal, The Undead by Linn Ullmann and Trilogy by Jon Fosse. The aim is to analyze the main themes and motives in these translated works, to highlight their stylistic characteristics and their transmission in translation into Bulgarian. Based on the comparison between translated and original works, examples of difficulties, challenges and good translation solutions in translating certain linguistic and stylistic features from Norwegian into Bulgarian are given.

Bilingual education: yes or no?

In meiner ersten wissenschaftlichen Arbeit befasse ich mich mit der Sprache als eine einzelne Disziplin, als eine lebendige Materie, die eine zentrale Rolle bei der Bildung unserer Gedanken, Gefühle, Wahrnehmungen und bei der Bildung von uns selbst im allgemein – als Persönlichkeiten, spielt. Ich untersuche die Frage (die für mich persönlich noch interessanter ist), ob ein Kind, das mit zwei oder mehr Sprachen aufwächst, mehr Gesichtspunkte für unsere Umwelt bekommt. Des Weiteren ob es später ein Vorteil oder ein Hindernis für das Erfahren der allgemeingültigen Wahrheit der Welt ist? Gibt es eigentlich nur eine solche Wahrheit? Oder circa 7000 unterschiedliche Wahrheiten (so viel wie es Sprachen auf der Erde ungefähr gibt)? Ich hoffe, dass ich Sie mit diesen Fragen zum Nachdenken bringe und dass wir zusammen mit Hilfe der Sprache zu einigen Antworten kommen…

Was bedeuten die Gedichte von Erich Fried für uns und unsere Welt heute? – dies war die zentrale Frage, mit der sich die Teilnehmer:innen des Essay- Wettbewerbs der Österreich- Bibliothek Sofia in Zusammenarbeit und Unterstützung der Österreichischen Botschaft, des DAAD und der ZfA anlässlich des 100. Geburtstages von Fried beschäftigten. Schüler:innen und Studierende aus ganz Bulgarien sollten ein Gedicht von Fried als Schreibimpuls auswählen und auf dessen Grundlage ihre eigenen Gedanken in Form eines Essays äußern.

Annual competition for essay writing in the Danish language

The annual competition for essay writing in Danish language has been organized since 2015 by the “Hans Christian Andersen Centre for Research and Information” at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the Embassy of Denmark in Sofia and the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces (Slots- og Kulturstyrelsen).

Every year the students from the Department of German and Scandinavian Studies who study Danish language and culture participate in the competition. The aim is to encourage students to apply their Danish language skills in a different context, broaden their perspectives and motivate them to learn even more about Denmark’s language, culture and history.

This year’s essay competition was entitled “Hvordan skabes tillidsbroer?” – “How do we create bridges of trust”, commemorating the 90th anniversary of the initiation of the diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Denmark.

The first prize was awarded to Magdalena Petkova, who is a 3rd year student (Scandinavian Studies programme) and the Special prize of the Danish ambassador was awarded to Daniel Theoharov, 4th year student (Scandinavian Studies programme).

Член е на Немската академия за език и поезия, на немския ПЕН-център и др. Носител е на редица награди, сред които „Петер Хухел“, „Вилхелм Рабе“ и „Клопщок“, номинирана е три пъти за Германската награда за литература.

„Кехлибарен парк Калининград“ възниква вследствие на четириседмичен престой в Калининград по стъпките на философа Йохан Георг Хаман.

Ева Пацовска-Иванова е преводач от немски език на текстове на Томас Фрам, Андреас Хамбургер и Вивиан Праматаров-Хамбургер, Ханс Тил и др.

Ирис Волф е родена през 1977 г. в Херманщат (Сибиу), семейството ѝ е част от немскоезичната общност в Банат. През 1995 г. се премества заедно с близките си в Германия, където завършва литература, теология и графика и изобразително изкуство в Марбургския университет. Дебютният ѝ роман Halber Stein излиза през 2012г., а излезлият през 2020 г. роман Die Unschärfe der Welt, от който е предложеният откъс e номиниран за Германската литературна награда, както и за Наградата на Лайпцигския панаир. В литературата си Волф често се връща към родното си място и изобразява живота на германското малцинство в Седмиградско, в Неясните очертания на света тя разказва историята на четири поколения.

Виолета Вичева е преводач от немски език и доктор по немскоезична литература. След няколко превеода на литература за деца и на хуманитаристика, това е първият ѝ превод на художествена литература за възрастни. Излизането на книгата предстои през 2022 г. и е подпомогнато от TRADUKI.

Катя Алвес е родена в град Коимбра, Португалия. Работила е в книжарница, в библиотека, била е редактор в радиото. Днес тя живее със семейството си в Цюрих и пише детски романи, повести, радиопиеси. Много обича португалски оризови кексчета, за които твърди, че са преки роднини на мъфините.

Илюстраторката Ели Брудер е родена е през 1980 г. в областта Пфалц, Германия. От малка обича да рисува истории в картинки. След като завършва образованието си в Шотландия и Фрайбург, работи като илюстратор. Живее с мъжа си и с цяла ферма с животни край езерото Ратцебург в Северна Германия. В Шотландия Ели Брудер за пръв път опитала мъфини, които и до днес обича много.

Милкана Делер учи в Софийски университет „Св. Климент Охридски“, специалност „Славянска филология”, а след това продължава образованието си в университета във Вюрцбург, Германия. Целият ѝ професионален път е свързан с преводи и преподаване. Превежда и досега за Германското и Швейцарското посолство в България, както и за Президентството, Народното събрание, Министерски съвет и различни министерства.

Заема се с превода на „Клубът на мъфините“, защото дъщеря ѝ е на годините на героините и ѝ се струва, че книгите ще са забавни за децата в България, а също и заради илюстрациите. Обича да прекарва време с дъщеря си и кучето им, както и да пече сладкиши.
