For this purpose, along with the practical training in Scandinavian languages, the curriculum of the programme includes in-depth training in theoretical linguistics, literature, and cultural studies, as well as different specializing disciplines. According to their status, the disciplines are divided into compulsory, elective and optional (for more information \u2013 see below). All disciplines include lectures, exercises and seminars, participation in which is mandatory.<\/p>\n<p><b>Swedish, Danish and Norwegian alternate as main languages in the Bachelor&#8217;s degree programme. <\/b>This means that, for example, during the 2025\/2026 academic year, first-year students at the programme will start learning Norwegian as their main Scandinavian language, which will remain their main language throughout their studies. Students can choose from the other languages that are taught in the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology, e.g. English, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, etc.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Optional <\/strong>disciplines contribute to the additional training of students according to their special interests. Such disciplines are, for example, \u201eSport\u201c, \u201eIntroduction to outsourcing\u201c etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel panel-default panel-4511cc4d594436adb fusion-toggle-has-divider\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h4 class=\"panel-title toggle\" id=\"toggle_4511cc4d594436adb\"><a aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"4511cc4d594436adb\" role=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion-2729-1\" data-target=\"#4511cc4d594436adb\" href=\"#4511cc4d594436adb\"><span class=\"fusion-toggle-icon-wrapper\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><i class=\"fa-fusion-box active-icon awb-icon-minus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><i class=\"fa-fusion-box inactive-icon awb-icon-plus\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"fusion-toggle-heading\">European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div><div id=\"4511cc4d594436adb\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"toggle_4511cc4d594436adb\"><div class=\"panel-body toggle-content fusion-clearfix\">\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">For the three types of disciplines (compulsory, elective and optional) students receive not only grades but also the so-called credit points (cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/education.ec.europa.eu\/education-levels\/higher-education\/higher-education-initiatives\/inclusive-and-connected-higher-education\/european-credit-transfer-and-accumulation-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System<\/a> (ECTS)).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"eop\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Each semester, students must collect a minimum of 30 credit points, which are formed by compulsory and elective courses. An exception is the last 8<sup>th<\/sup> semester, in which the minimum number of credits is 20, and 10 credits are obtained by successfully passing the state exam.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"eop\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Credits from elective courses are not included in the total number of credits per semester. This means that the optional disciplines are studied additionally, if desired and according to the student\u2019s interests.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-panel baseline;\">\n<h2><span class=\"normaltextrun\"><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Practical language training<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">It includes the compulsory disciplines \u201cApplied Linguistics\u201d (for Swedish or Norwegian depending on the school year), \u201cSecond Scandinavian language\u201d (Swedish, Danish or Norwegian, chosen by the students), \u201cIntroduction to Icelandic\u201d and the optional discipline \u201cFinnish in Swedish, Danish and Norwegian), \u201cNordic Literature and Mythology\u201d, as well as the elective courses \u201cNorwegian Folklore\u201d, \u201cHistory of the Finnish Literature\u201d, \u201cKnut Hamsun &#8211; Life and Work\u201d, \u201cS\u00f8ren Kierkegaard &#8211; Life and Work\u201d, \u201cHolberg, Ibsen, Strindberg\u201d, \u201cFantastic and Real (on Karen Blixen\u2019s
